Slow Cooker = Homemade Stock
Homemade stock…. it’s healthy, it’s a way to use leftovers that sometimes get thrown away.

It’s easy to make on the stovetop but it’s even easier if you use the slow cooker.
Here’s an example of chicken stock made using the slow cooker.
This is for using a whole chicken.
Leave some meat on the bones for added flavor.
Place everything inside the slow cooker, add two bay leaves, and a sprinkling of peppercorns. You can also add carrots and celery.

Next add some salt, pepper and seasonings such as oregano, basil, thyme and rosemary.
Pour in water to cover the chicken and turn it on for about 2 hours on high, or low for 4 hours.
Take a large container and put a sieve or strainer over it and pour the contents of the slow cooker over it. Everything like the bay leaves and bones should have been caught in the sieve but check there’s nothing in there that shouldn’t be.

You can store this in the fridge and use as needed or freeze it for later use.
