Cooking Tip-Salted butter vs. Unsalted Butter
Do you stand in the dairy aisle wondering if you should buy salted butter or unsalted butter?
Usually, the salted variety costs less but is it always the best buy?
Salt is added to butter to create extra flavor. It also helps preserve it so it has a longer shelf life.
However, the drawback is sometimes the salt in butter can be more than a recipe needs.
The advantage to using unsalted butter is it gives you more control over how much salt your finished dish needs contains and also what it tastes like.
If you do go with the salted variety, omit approximately ¼ teaspoon of salt per ½ cup (one stick) of butter used in your recipe.
